The 10 Commandments for the Traveler
- Always pack your Bible on every trip and carry it with you in your hand carry luggage on the plane.
- Purchase a CD, MP3 or Cassette Player and purchase the Bible on one of these formats to carry with you on every trip. Use the players during exercise, walking, shopping or even to help you sleep. Purchase a soft small earpiece that you can sleep on that fits in one ear during the year. (Available at Radio Shack for 2.99) Even if you can’t sleep because of jetlag you will at least be listening and learning from God’s Word.
- Ask your Christian friends who you can trust to pray for you specifically on the dates you will be traveling for safety and grace to resist temptation and loneliness while you are on the road.
- Ask your closest Christian friends who you can really get honest with to pray for you in specific areas that you struggle with like loneliness, fear, lust, etc. This will not only help you but will also give you accountability partners to pray and support you while you are gone.
- Make it a habit while you are on the road to get up in the morning and have at least 20 to 30 minutes with the Lord in Bible Study before your work day begins. This is your temptation insurance while you are traveling.
- When you get to the hotel room disable any pornographic TV channels on your set before you are tempted to watch, especially when you are tired and alone late at night.
- not, by the grace of God, defile yourself in any impure activity or thought. (Daniel 1:8)
- Avoid at all costs channel surfing on your room TV, especially late at night, as many late night channels in most countries will have porno stations on for free. Find out ahead of time what is on every channel, like CNN, and push the number of the station that you want to watch to avoid being tempted instead of channel surfing.
- Find out as soon as you arrive if there are any local churches near the area that you will be staying. CalvaryChapel.com has a good website that lists all of their over 3,000 churches around the world with service times. Many of these churches have weekday services and are good solid churches that study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter.
- Don’t go dining by yourself especially in any type of restaurant that has a bar area. Dangerous, especially if you are alone. Also if you go out with your coworkers make a commitment that you are not going to drink. If you do then limit it to just one drink. It is better not to drink at all but if you do be careful as each drink will loosen your inhibitions and makes you a prime target for spiritual attack by the enemy.
